The Sight: the figure looks down into the lake and finds the enchanted stone glowing blue beneath the surface. The Breath: a cloaked figure stands at the edge of a lake at dusk, drawing the water's rasa in. The Step: the figure walks out across the surface of the lake, light under his boots. The Reach: the stone rises out of the water toward the figure's open hand without being touched. The Strength: the figure closes his fist around the stone and it breaks, light escaping between his fingers.

The Parable of the Lake

There’s a stone at the bottom of a lake. Enchanted. You want it.

The Sight

You use the Sight to find the stone. Feel where it sits, how deep, what it’s doing.

Five skills. No words. No vocabulary. Just you and a lake and a stone.

↓ the words

All magic is one magic

There is a single energy called rasa, and it flows through the land, through the leylines, and through every living person. Every tradition, every school, and every spell is a different way of working that same current. When rasa is corrupted, it is called nasha. Learn those two words and you can read the whole world.

The Founders system

Each word below opens to the book’s own lines.

A Mage has the Founding.
A Magus has the Craft.
A Magi has the Mastery.
An Imagi is beyond words.

I · Mage

The Founding

The nine words

To find magic, we start with the nine Founder words. These are the Founding.

Once you have mastered the five, you may be called a Mage. Then you learn the words. The nine. Each word describes a principle of how rasa interacts with the world.

II · Magus

The Craft

The six shapes

To shape magic, we start with the six Craft shapes.

A word and a shape together. With these, you may be called Magus. Two words, one working. This is a Kenning, and it shows true capability.

III · Magi

The Mastery

The three prefixes

To master magic, we start with the three. Shakha. Rensa. Yantra. These are the Mastery.

Together, the Founding, the Craft, the Mastery, they are the Gift.

IV · Imagi

Beyond Words

An Imagi is beyond words.

Magic is about the power of imagination. Every word I just used is the same thing underneath. Rasa shaped by what you can conceive. The words are scaffolding. They carve the grooves in your mind until the grooves run on their own.
It means that to the Arcanum, or at least the Arcanum of old, you are the highest. A true master. In the world of magic, any Imagi may go where they will.
Within the realm of magic and on behalf of the Arcanum, an Imagi’s judgment is absolute.

What is magic?
All magic is one magic. It flows as rasa through the leylines, through the land, through us. All magic is one magic.

The magic is taught in the book the way it is taught here: a lake, a stone, and then the words.
